Jack Sullivan shares the real reason behind David Moyes' West Ham exit

Jack Sullivan has just lifted the lid on exactly why David Moyes left West Ham United earlier this month.

David Moyes did a great job at West Ham over the last four years in all fairness, but Julen Lopetegui has replaced him now and Jack Sullivan has offered a reason why that managerial change happened.

After Moyes left the London Stadium, Tim Steidten took a clear dig at the Scot during Lopetegui’s unveiling as the new West Ham manager, by suggesting that the Spaniard is more open to working in more of a continental structure.

The sheer fact of the matter is that Lopetegui will have to go some way to eclipsing what Moyes achieved at West Ham.

The likes of Jarrod Bowen and Kurt Zouma led the tributes to the Scot, after it was officially announced that he was leaving the club.

We should all be grateful for what Moyes did for the club but at the same time, it’s ok to have demanded a change, and to be excited for the future.

West Ham are on the cusp of an exciting new era under Lopetegui’s rein in my opinion. But how close were we to still having Moyes in the dugout this season?

Jack Sullivan shares real reason why David Moyes left West Ham

Talking to reporters earlier this year, Moyes insisted that he had a new contract on the table just waiting to be signed:

Moyes said, “I’ve had really good conversations with the owners, with David Sullivan and Karren Brady. There’s a contract there for me and I’m the one deciding I want to wait until the end of the season.”

The 61-year-old made those comments immediately after our pathetic 2-0 defeat away at Nottingham Forest, and they really didn’t go down well with the Hammers fans.

Unfortunately for him, and us, our season went even more downhill from that point onwards. So did Moyes walk away? Or was he pushed?

Speaking to Gabby Logan on The Sports Agents podcast, Sullivan opened up on Moyes’s exit from the London Stadium.

The West Ham owner’s son said, “I don’t want to speak for him, but it’s incredibly hard when you’re managing and are there everyday. There is more press than ever, more games than ever, and I think that can take its toll on anyone. I think the board and ownership felt it was potentially time for a new voice and for him to start a new challenge somewhere else.”

I can see where Sullivan is coming from but seriously…is anyone going to mention the elephant in the room?

What about the fact that West Ham won just five games in all competitions since the turn of the year under Moyes’s leadership?

What about the 74 Premier League goals the Hammers conceded – our worst ever tally!?

We fell down from sixth to ninth spot in the Premier League table during the final four months of the campaign, and the football being implemented by Moyes was an utter disgrace if we’re being honest.

Jack Sullivan was right in saying that David Moyes was exhausted from putting so much into West Ham. However, I’m convinced that wasn’t the main contributing factor to his Hammers exit.
