Report: Chelsea spent all last season monitoring PL club's Player of the Season, they could now sign him

Reports have claimed that Chelsea spent a large portion of the prior campaign watching one defender play with an interest in signing him.

Defence certainly looks like a position where the Blues are going to strengthen this summer, party down to who they have already lost and could still lose in that role.

Thiago Silva has already emotionally departed the club at the end of last season, bring to an end a fantastic four years of service.

He may not be the only central defender to leave the club either. Reports have stated that they are considering part ways with Trevoh Chalobah for the right price.

This is despite the Englishman coming into the team later on in the season, and making himself one of the first names on the teamsheet.

With at least one departing for sure though, replacements are necessary, and Chelsea have reportedly been looking not far from home for months now.

Chelsea monitoring Murillo

According to The Athletic, they are one of the sides have been monitoring the progress and situation of Nottingham Forest defender Murillo.

The Brazilian enjoyed a really strong campaign despite his side’s low placing in the Premier League.

With how the financial rules work in the Premier League, Forest could well be forced into a sale of some of their biggest players this summer.

If this is the case, the Blues should be chomping at the bit to make this deal happen.

Not only does he suit the project laid out by the club by the fact he is only 21, but he has already showcased a defensive ability that can immediately challenge for a regular place at Stamford Bridge.
