Overnight road closures on Milton Road in Cambridge for resurfacing work

Road closures will be in place on Milton Road in Cambridge from Monday (3 June) to enable resurfacing work to take place.

The overnight closures come as the Greater Cambridge Partnership continues to work on the Milton Road scheme which includes new bus lanes and improved cycling and walking routes – as well as the city’s second CYCLOPS junction.

The GCP’s contractors, Milestone, started raising utility covers and laying new service ducts along Milton Road this week between Hurst Park Avenue and Birch Close.

The first of the overnight road closures will be carried out between Mitcham’s Corner and Arbury Road from Monday from 8pm to 6am.

Once the first section is completed, the section of Milton Road from Arbury Road to King’s Hedges junction will be closed.

Finally, Mitcham’s Corner to Elizabeth Way Roundabout will be closed to allow works to be completed next to Mitcham’s Corner and Gilbert Road.

Thomas Fitzpatrick, the GCP’s head of programme, said: “We apologise for any disruption these overnight works will cause to people who live in or travel along Milton Road and thank you for your patience.”

Access will be maintained for all residents throughout the overnight works, with a traffic management team in place to help.

The emergency services, pedestrians and cyclists will also be able to travel along Milton Road through the resurfacing works but there will be no access for bus services.

No parking will be allowed where the surfacing is taking place – this includes the layby outside the shops – to enable the work to be carried out.

Surfacing on adjacent side roads will also be carried out but this will be limited to the first 30 metres of the affected roads, which are Highworth Avenue, Elizabeth Way, Oak Tree Avenue, Union Lane, Arbury Road and Birch Close.
