‘Amazing’ Liverpool player has had to cancel his holidays after latest development

Liverpool have produced many young stars over the years, with many academy graduates going on to have superb senior careers.

The likes of Steven Gerrard, Steve McManaman, Jamie Carragher and Michael Owen come to mind in more recent times.

But more recently than that, there is a very talented group of youngsters that have developed their skills in the academy and are now in the first team.

Two such players have now already taken their careers to another level, with Curtis Jones and Jarell Quansah named in the latest England squad.

Southgate has heaped praise on the duo after their call-ups, saying he is ‘excited’ about the midfielder, while labelling the defender’s transition this season as ‘amazing’.

England call-up forces Jarell Quansah to change his summer plans

Quansah has now given his take on his first-ever senior call-up, which comes ahead of Euro 2024 this summer.

The 21-year-old centre-back has had to change his plans due to his international commitments as the Three Lions prepare for the major tournament.

On receiving the call-up, he said: “I told my family first – my mum and dad – when I got the call,” said Quansah, as per the official Liverpool website.

“I was buzzing and they were buzzing for me. Probably crying, to be honest.

“I had a few holidays booked with my mates and I’ve had to tell them to go without me. They’re obviously blowing up my phone and they’re buzzing for me.”

Which Liverpool players will make the final England squad?

It is a superb achievement for both Quansah and Jones, and a sign of just how well they performed for Liverpool this season.

But they aren’t the only players from the Anfield club to have been included, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez also selected.

Unfortunately, their seats on the plane to Germany are certainly not guaranteed, with Southgate needing to trim his squad.

The manager has named 33 players in his camp for the friendly matches against Bosnia & Herzegovina and Iceland.

But Southgate must make some very hard decisions as he cuts his squad down to 26 for the major tournament.

And that could mean that the more experienced duo of Alexander-Arnold and Gomez are included, with Quansah and Jones potentially missing out.
