All Saints Church on Southern Road in Basingstoke will host the service, which will take place at 3pm on Sunday, June 9. St Michael’s Church, the usual venue, is currently undergoing maintenance.

Mr Putty said: “The civic service is a great opportunity to give thanks for our wonderful borough and to focus on bringing our communities together through prayer, song and reflection.”

Bishop David Williams, the mayor’s chaplain, will lead proceedings, with music from church organist Geoff Willis and the All Saints Church Choir.

“Everybody is welcome to join me for the service and for refreshments afterwards,” the new mayor added.

“I am looking forward to seeing as many people there as possible.”

Proceeds from the retiring collection will go towards supporting the North Hampshire Prostate Cancer Support Group and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation.

Entry is free of charge, but space is limited and tickets will be given on a first come, first served basis, with a maximum of six per booking.
