Report: Multiple EFL clubs now weighing up summer swoop for impressive Derby County talent

Derby County talent Dajaune Brown was sent on loan to National League side Gateshead last season, and impressed during his four-month period in the north-east.

Brown, originally from Nottingham, came through the Derby County academy where he was a prolific goal scorer for the Rams’ U18 and U21 teams.

He made his first-team debut this season in a 2-0 EFL Cup defeat vs Blackpool at Pride Park, where he played 17 minutes off the bench as a substitute for Conor Washington.

The striker went on to make four more appearances for Derby as a substitute last season including making his League One debut in a 4-0 win against Northampton Town.

These efforts afforded the 18-year-old his first start against Dagenham & Redbridge where he scored once again, for the third consecutive game, what proved to be the matchwinner in a 1-0 victory.

He finished the league campaign with an impressive six goals in 18 games as he helped guide his club to a playoff spot.

However, the Tynesiders were cruelly denied a spot in the play-offs as their stadium, which is owned by the Borough Council of Gateshead, does not meet the relevant qualifying criteria to enable the club to become a Member of the EFL.

Derby County talent Dajaune Brown attracting interest

Naturally, after such a successful spell out on loan, Brown has become an attractive prospect for many clubs.

Gateshead manager Rob Elliot revealed that he wanted to bring Brown back next season in a recent interview.

He said: “If we had been promoted to League Two then we would have asked for him again.”

It seems that the 18-year-old is ready to step up to the fourth tier next season with Derbyshire Live reporting that several League Two clubs are interested in the player, but it has not yet been revealed exactly which clubs are interested.

Another loan move for the striker looks likely with the Rams unlikely to want to let go of their talented youngster whose first professional contract with the club runs for another two seasons.

The stance Paul Warne should take on Dajaune Brown at Derby County

Brown is certainly making a name for himself, and his recent, impressive showing with Gateshead gives Paul Warne a lot to think about.

Whilst having a young and exciting talent like Brown in the first-team could offer Warne an option in the Championship, how much game-time he’ll realistically get remains to be seen.

It might be that Brown’s development is better-served heading out on loan again next season, with a step up to League Two, or even League One bound to be beneficial for his development.

That said, if Derby County can’t get the players they want this summer then Warne might think twice about sending Brown out on loan.

Expect Warne to want to take a look at him in pre-season either way, and make a decision later in the summer.
