Sunderland fans all say the same thing as search for next manager continues

Sunderland fans are all saying the same thing as the club’s search for their next manager goes on.

Sunderland fans have been waiting patiently for their club to hire a new manager, after previously sacking Michael Beale in February.

But the last week has seen fans grow tiresome with the ongoing search for Beale’s successor, which has now surpassed 100 days.

Names continue to be linked but names also continue to move elsewhere; Bo Svensson has taken charge of Union Berlin whilst Danny Rohl has signed a new contract at Sheffield Wednesday, and Will Still is now tipped to take charge of RC Lens.

The latest on Will Still to Sunderland

Still, 31, is a long-term target for Sunderland owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus. But Ligue 1 side RC Lens are now tipped to appoint the former Reims boss.

Alan Nixon has since revealed that Still to Sunderland may still be on, with Louis-Dreyfus potentially ready to make one last push to hire Still over the weekend.

Raphael Wicky linked to Sunderland

Swiss coach Raphael Wicky is a new name in the frame. He guided Young Boys to the Swiss Cup and Swiss Super League during the 2022/23 campaign.

Reports then emerged claiming that Wicky had agreed a two-year deal to become the next Sunderland manager, which Fabrizio Romano quickly played down.

Sunderland AFC News understands that Wicky is interested in replacing Beale at the Stadium of Light this summer.

Sunderland fans say the same thing as search for next manager goes on

Sunderland fans are certainly nervy about who their next manager will be and what the club’s fortunes will be in the 2024/25 campaign.

Aside from that worry, though, fans are concerned about the lack of insight from the club’s board regarding the ongoing managerial search.

@haymansafc posted: “As we enter day 102 without a manager/head coach, the club really does need to issue some sort of statement, now. The situation is ridiculous.”

@rollie3333 also added: “Would be nice if the club came out and made some sort of official statement about the head coach position.”

Sunderland have certainly made progress in the three years that Louis-Dreyfus has been at the helm, moving out of League One, stabilising in the Championship, and putting together a very exciting and valuable squad.

But decisions in managers; sacking Tony Mowbray and hiring Beale, and now this ongoing hesitance in hiring a new boss has pulled Louis-Dreyfus, and indeed sporting director Kristjaan Speakman, under the spotlight.

@eathummous1 says: “Think the word is out amongst managers that the #SAFC job is toxic.

“To work under KLD & KS is to give up too much that a manager needs to be able to do. Inevitably a no-win situation for the manager.

“How else to explain no appointment and no communication from the club?”

After the news of Still to Lens, @Redser702 said: “Proper shambles. I usually back KLD and co, but serious questions have to be asked now after this.”

And all this uncertainty, which will inevitably set back the club’s summer transfer plans and also make the club less attractive in the transfer market, has some fans fearing the worst for next season.

@Brummy481 says: “Relegation fodder, sort it out KLD,” and @J0shueJ0rdan says: “We’re in a relegation battle already.”
