Sky Sports journalist says Liverpool have made a proposal to sign 'explosive' player likened to Xabi Alonso

Liverpool’s quest for new signings is taking them far and wide and it looks like they could be looking at the German market once again.

The Reds are keen to back Arne Slot in the window this summer and there are already a number of names being linked.

Santiago Gimenez was linked with a move to Anfield earlier today, while the likes of Federico Chiesa and Brian Mbuemo have also found themselves linked as well.

Clearly, then, the Reds are keen on adding a new attacking midfielder or winger to their ranks, given those names mentioned.

However, another name is now being thrown into the mix from over in Germany.

Liverpool have submitted a proposal to sign Assan Ouédraogo

According to the information of Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool are among a cluster of English clubs to make a move for Ouédraogo.

Speaking on a transfer update forSky Germany today, Plettenberg confirmed there are a number of clubs keen on signing Ouédraogo.

Liverpool are one of the clubs to have submitted a proposal, while Manchester United, Aston Villa, and Newcastle all get a mention as well.

Plettenberg claims English clubs can sign Ouédraogo for just £10m this summer but the youngster would prefer to stay in Germany for now.

Quite whether Liverpool, or anyone else, can tempt him to the Premier League just now, remains to be seen.

Ouédraogo an ‘explosive’ talent with room to grow

It must be said here that Assan Ouédraogo is very much still in the early stages of his career and has plenty of time ahead of him to develop.

Further, Ouédraogo has also so far only cut the mustard in the second tier in Germany, meaning the step to the elite level in England is quite large.

However, this is a player who is highly-rated.

The Bundesliga official website describes the teenager of being a bit like Xabi Alonso in how he plays.

“While he may not quite possess the passing range of Bayer Leverkusen head coach Alonso, Schalke’s starlet likes to drop deep and build attacks from there,” they write.

“However, he is at his best when using his explosive pace and power to break the lines like Essien did at his peak, and his goalscoring record suggests he could add goals to his game as well.”

Certainly, then, Liverpool fans would love to see a new version of Xabi Alonso on the books!
