Rio Ferdinand now says Manchester United loanee deserves to be applauded for 'ridiculous' reason

Rio Ferdinand has had his say on the situation involving one Manchester United loanee who deserves some credit.

It’s been a long season for Manchester United and also for several loanees with only a few finding joy at their temporary homes.

Erik ten Hag saw Hannibal Mejbri, Dan Gore, Facundo Pellistri and even to an extent the now permanently sold Alvaro Fernandez struggle to impress.

This will see the three return to Carrington in July where things don’t look promising for them.

However, two loanees actually thrived at their clubs, this being Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood. Both have impressed and Greenwood is likely to secure a big-money exit this summer.

For Sancho, the Champions League final awaits this weekend, and now Rio Ferdinand has given his verdict on the silky winger.

Rio Ferdinand credits Jadon Sancho for strong mentality

Ahead of the Champions League final, Ferdinand has been talking about Sancho and couldn’t help but praise the loanee for his resilience.

“You need to look at him and his situation,” Ferdinand told TNT Sports.

“He has lost confidence. He has been criticised heavily. He had to find a new club and a new environment. He has gone and could be winning the Champions League final; it is ridiculous to say that.”

Ferdinand then continued to explain that he thinks Sancho deserves praise, for how he has bounced back from earlier this season.

“That spirit, that character he has shown, that resilience,” Ferdinand added. “It is something we should applaud.”

Continuing, Ferdinand explained that this summer, Sancho must find himself a home he’s happy at.

“It is down to the player and the club,” Ferdinand said.

“He needs to go where he is happy. If that is staying at Manchester United and they want that, then great. If not, go find somewhere else.”

What should Manchester United do with Sancho?

In an ideal world, United would sell Sancho to Borussia Dortmund this summer after his impressive form contributed to their Champions League final run.

However, it won’t be as simple as this, as Dortmund cannot actually afford to buy Sancho, according to Sky Sports.

“It’s too expensive”, Sky Germany’s Jesco von Eichmann explained which all but rules out Sancho’s permanent return to the Bundesliga this summer.

This means Sancho will likely either be given a final chance at United or sent on loan again to build his value up and hopefully attract clubs who can afford him.
