This week the NASCAR Cup Series is headed to Gateway for the Enjoy Illinois 300 and Tyler Reddick is among the favorites. At least, if you ask the people putting money down.
A lot of times, you can’t rationalize what sports bettors are doing. This could be one of those moments. The folks at NBC Sports Bet put out some information on where the money is going for theEnjoy Illinois 300.
Among the drivers in the field, Tyler Reddick has 24.9% of the total money bet. That’s not necessarily the most bets, but the percentage of the money wagered in total.
At almost a fourth of the money, it feels like NASCAR bettors are liking Reddick’s chances at Gateway.
Now, look, I don’t thnk Tyler Reddick (+1000) is a bad driver. In fact, I think he is likely a top-five driver in the Cup Series most weeks. When it comes to Gateway, his luck has not been the best.
In two Cup races at the track, Reddick has a P35 DNF and a P16 finish. Not the best. On top of that, Toyota only had two drivers in the top ten last season in this same race.
I’ll never tell someone how to spend their money, but of all the tracks on the schedule, I’m unsure why Reddick is getting so much hype on this one. Then again, he might end up proving me wrong and all of those bettors right.
Tyler Reddick hoping to keep momentum going
The stretch from Kansas to Charlotte did not end how Tyler Reddick wanted it to. He felt like those tracks were his best chance to get another win and now he’s on the other end with just a single top-five finish in that time.
Good news, that finish came at Charlotte last week. He showed up with speed and looked like one of the best drivers in the field. So, there is momentum to this 45 team right now. They have to capitalize on it.
In 2022 when Reddick was with Richard Childress Racing, the 45 car finished P3 with Jurt Busch at this track. Perhaps there is some data hidden in that performance that can help Reddick this season.
Personally, I have my eyes on the Team Penske Fords as well as RFK Racing and Hendrick Motorsports. We will have to wait and see if Tyler Reddick can back up all of that money that’s been put on him.
