'He could be': Journalist shares he's heard Chelsea may be targeting 'incredible' £70k-a-week German player

Chelsea may reportedly have their eyes set on signing a German player from a Premier League rival this summer.

The transfer rumour mill is already linking Chelsea with several potential new signings.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano even claimed via X on Saturday morning that Chelsea are closing in on a deal to sign centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo.

So, could they turn towards a German player after Adarabioyo?

Interestingly, Chelsea do have a strong connection with Germany. For example, German stars Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Antonio Rudiger played for the Blues in recent years.

Whispers that Chelsea are looking at Premier League player

Journalist Dean Jones has reported that Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega may be on Chelsea’s shortlist this summer.

He’s heard whispers that the Blues may be looking at the 31-year-old German shot-stopper.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “Ortega thinks he is good enough to be their number one and is willing to back himself in that sense. I think a few clubs will have an eye on his situation right now to see how conversations go around a new contract.

“There are even a few whispers he could be on Chelsea’s list as they consider targets who already have some Premier League experience.”

This comes after claims from The Telegraph that incoming Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca wants the club to sign a new goalkeeper, left-back and forward this summer.

Stefan Ortega deal would be fantastic

The Chelsea Chronicle thinks Man City’s Ortega would be a superb signing for the Blues if it happens.

He’s played the role of back-up goalkeeper to Ederson since moving to the Etihad Stadium in 2022, but he’s a top-class player that delivers whenever called upon. His record for them across two years is 17 clean sheets in 34 games.

Ortega was superb in helping Man City get over the line to win the Premier League title again last season, particularly with a display against Tottenham. In fact, Erling Haaland described Ortega as “incredible” after the Spurs display via Man City’s website.

There may be one potential hurdle if Chelsea are serious about signing the underrated goalkeeper, whose ball-playing qualities would be perfect under Maresca’s style.

The Daily Star recently claimed that Man City will offer Ortega a new contract with them, which would bump up his deal from £70,000-a-week to £90,000-a-week.
