Paul Warne can uncover Chris Martin 2.0 at Derby County with summer move for 5-goal striker - opinion

Paul Warne and Derby County need to add strikers to their ranks this summer.

Paul Warne will know that his current Derby County side needs vast improvements during the summer transfer window if they’re to beat the drop next season.

The Rams are returning to the Championship after securing a 2nd place finish in League One. But Derby County were the joint-lowest scorers in the top six.

James Collins was the club’s top scorer with 14 goals in League One last season, then followed by Nathanial Mendez-Laing.

There’s uncertainty over Collins’ future with his contract expiring next month, though the 33-year-old would certainly be a useful player for the Rams’ Championship return.

His goals alone though won’t keep Derby County in the second tier this time next year. Warne needs added quality, and he could find some with a move for Adama Sidibeh at St Johnstone.

Derby County eyeing Adama Sidibeh

Emerging reports claim that Derby County are among the Championship clubs eyeing a move for St Johnstone striker Sidibeh, 25.

Burnley and Middlesbrough also fancy the bustling striker who joined St Johnstone from Scottish non-league outfit Warrington Rylands in January this year.

He went on to score five in 15 Scottish Premiership games, including three in his last five and an impressive overhead kick.

Derby County can unlock Chris Martin 2.0 with Adama Sidibeh move

Derby County desperately need a prolific and clinical striker this summer; one like former Rams legend Chris Martin.

He scored 76 in 224 total games for Derby County and was a real poacher-type striker, more often not scoring his goals from close range.

And Sidibeh is largely the same; all five of his goals for St Johnstone came from inside the box, and like Martin, Sidibeh is a player with real pace and power.

Despite his slighter stature, his highlights show that he’s a player who can burst through defences and push through players to get himself into scoring positions.

That kind of physicality should set him up well for a potential move to the Championship this summer, though how much he might cost the Rams or any other buying team remains to be seen.

If not Sidibeh, then Warne needs a striker like Martin; clinical and powerful, who can bed into the Championship and score the goals needed to beat the drop.
