Ukrainian President arrives in Singapore

Ukrainian President arrived in Singapore on June 1

"Global security is impossible when the largest country in the world ignores recognized borders, international law and the UN Charter, blackmails with hunger, darkness and nuclear weapons," he wrote, adding that restoring peace in Ukraine and ensuring global food and nuclear security are priorities that will be discussed at the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland.

"That is why it will be important for us to hear the voice of the Asia-Pacific region there."

Zelenskyy is expected to address the conference participants and hold a number of meetings, including with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, East Timorese President Jose Ramos-Horta, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, and Singaporean investors.

Zelenskyy arrived in Singapore from Sweden, where he attended the third Ukraine-Northern Europe Summit and signed a bilateral security agreement with Norway.

On May 31, Reuters reported, citing four sources familiar with the matter, that Beijing had rejected the invitation to attend in the Global Peace Summit because of its conditions about Russia's participation and failure to meet “a fair discussion of all proposals.”

Chinese Foreign Ministry has not officially confirmed the information, but earlier a spokesperson for the ministry said that China supports a peace conference with equal participation of all parties.

Global Peace Summit will take place in Switzerland on June 15-16. Russia will not attend it.

Head of the Office of President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, allowed Russia’s participation in Global Peace Summit, but not in the first inaugural meeting at the level of leaders, but in the following ones. At the same time, Swiss Foreign Ministry stated that peace process is “unthinkable” without Russia.
