Report: Liverpool are going to start talks about signing £60m player very soon

The transfer window is upon us, and Liverpool are being linked with a number of players heading into this summer.

A number of new defenders have been linked, but an intriguing link coming out of Anfield is to a midfield player.

Indeed, according to Rudy Galetti, Liverpool are going to start talks about signing Alan Varela in the near future.

Liverpool to start talks with Alan Varela

According to Galetti, Liverpool are set to increase the pressure in their quest to sign Alan Varela.

The midfielder is said to have a £60m release clause, and Liverpool are expected to start negotiating with Porto very soon.

The Argentine is set to head to the Olympics this summer, and, that may mean that Liverpool look to push through a deal early before all focus turns towards Paris for the Porto midfielder.

Varela signing makes a lot of sense

This is a signing that makes so much sense for Liverpool.

Varela is a very talented player, but the terms of this deal are right up Liverpool’s street.

We saw last season how Liverpool love to take advantage of these sorts of release clauses with both Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister signing in similar sorts of deals, while a transfer from the Portuguese league makes the world of sense after Julian Ward’s return to the club.

Indeed, Ward knows the Portuguese league like the back of his hand, hence why he signed the likes of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez for Liverpool, and one has to wonder whether or not Ward is playing a part in this pursuit of Varela so soon after his return to the fold at Anfield.

It’s going to be an exciting summer of change for Liverpool after the end of the Jurgen Klopp era, and Varela could be one of the Reds’ marquee signings of this window.
