Report: Arsenal could now be stuck with £30m player this summer; club will not pay Edu's asking price

Arsenal are looking to move on a number of players this summer but at the moment, their asking price for one star is a touch too high it seems.

The Gunners came within a whisker of winning the Premier League title but saw Manchester City once again pip them at the finishing line.

For Arsenal now, the focus is on making new signings in the summer and also moving on players to help boost the kitty.

There are a number of players among that group Edu and Mikel Arteta want to move on. The likes of Emile Smith, Eddie Nketiah and England goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale, are all considered for sale.

However, when it comes to the future of goalkeeper Ramsdale, Arsenal could have a big problem on their hands.

Newcastle unwilling to pay £30m to sign Aaron Ramsdale

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle are looking to sign a new goalkeeper to put pressure on Nick Pope next year and they see Ramsdale as a player they’d like.

However, according to the report here, Newcastle will not be paying the current asking price for Ramsdale.

It’s claimed Arsenal want around £30m for the stopper – effectively the money they paid Sheffield United – but Newcastle do not want to stump up such a fee.

Newcastle apparently still see Nick Pope as their number one and with that, they’re unwilling to spend so much of their budget on another stopper.

The Mags are also looking at James Trafford, who could cost less after being relegated with Burnley.

Ramsdale needs to push for Arsenal exit

While Newcastle might not happen now for Ramsdale, this doesn’t mean he should just be content with sitting at Arsenal and picking up a wage.

He still needs to be looking to force a move here and there are plenty of clubs who will take him.

In fairness, if Newcastle are planning on keeping Pope around, then Ramsdale might find himself in the same situation at St James’ Park anyway.

However, Ramsdale still needs to find a way out. He simply cannot spend another year on the bench behind David Raya.
