'Don't be scared': Everton star sends Tony Bellew message ahead of England Soccer Aid match

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has sent Tony Bellew a word of advice ahead of Soccer Aid, which takes place on June 9.

England are looking for their first victory in six years and have enlisted the help of the former cruiserweight, who is set to don the number one shirt.

Unsurprisingly, Bellew has reached out to Everton’s number one for a word of advice ahead of the fundraiser at Stamford Bridge.

In a recent Q&A on Everton’s YouTube channel, Bellew asked the former Sunderland man for some guidance ahead of his goalkeeping debut.

Bellew said: “Pickers, I should need no introduction; my question to you, champ, is, since I am going to be a goalkeeper in Soccer Aid next month, what advice have you got for me?”

Pickford replied: “Don’t be scared of diving. I think you’re brave enough, so get in the way of the ball. If I see you down getting smacked in the head with the ball, then there are problems. Just enjoy throwing yourself about on the floor.”

Jordan Pickford’s international duties are slightly more important this summer

Although Bellew’s goalkeeping debut is a big deal, it’s probably not quite as crucial as Pickford’s role for his country this summer.

It feels like now or never for Gareth Southgate’s men as they head to Germany for the European Championships.

After going close in recent years, this specific England side need to show they have enough to get the job done and end 56 years of pain.

Pickford has been ever-so reliable on the international stage, and if England do go all the way, the Everton star will have no doubt played a significant part.
