Report: West Ham trying to bring outstanding winger back to London after £51m asking price drops

Julen Lopetegui is clearly intent on bolstering his attacking options at West Ham United this summer.

West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui has a lot of work to do in the transfer market this summer, and signing an attacker is one of his main priorities.

The Hammers were left depleted after the January transfer window when David Moyes allowed Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals to leave the London Stadium without replacing them.

Lopetegui has around £90 million to spend on transfers this summer, before taking into account any player sales.

That’s a decent budget, especially if Lopetegui manages to raise around £50-60 million by selling four or five players.

And then we will surely be able to expect a major signing this summer.

However, the latest link is really reasonably priced considering how much quality he has…

West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui wants to bring former PL star back to London

Lopetegui is on the tail of a truly top-class forward it seems.

It has become a common theme recently for talented young Englishman to move abroad and prove themselves.

And the latest player to be linked with a move to West Ham has done exactly that.

According to Record, the Hammers have opened talks to sign Marcus Edwards this summer.

Sporting are demanding just £25 million for him – £26 million less than they wanted for him in January.

For £51 million, I would suggest steering clear of Edwards, but for £25 million, he’d be a steal.

Described by Sky Sports as ‘outstanding’, the 25-year-old has been in fine form for Sporting since joining the Portuguese giants in January 2022.

Edwards has bagged 21 goals and 26 assists in 110 games for Sporting (Transfermarkt), and has a league title to his name.

Marcus Edwards is a left-footed right winger who has pace to burn and is brilliant technically. He has an eye for goal and regularly contributes with assists as well.

He’d provide superb cover and competition for Jarrod Bowen and for just £25 million, signing him should be an absolute no-brainer for West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui.
