Night attack on Ukraine: Shaheds shot down by air defense

Russians launched another air attack on Ukrainian territory during the night of May 2, using missiles and kamikaze drones. Ukrainian air defense forces shot down 24 enemy strike drones, according to the Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk.

It was noted that the occupiers launched the following at Ukraine during the night:

  • an Iskander-K cruise missile from occupied Crimea towards the Kharkiv region,
  • an S-300 guided anti-aircraft missile from the occupied part of the Donetsk region,
  • and 25 Shaheds from Cape Chauda (occupied Crimea), Yeysk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia.

Air defense response

The general reported that the air strike was countered by fighter aviation, anti-aircraft missile units of the Air Force, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. Electronic warfare means were also employed.

Oleshchuk specified that the enemy strike drones were destroyed in eight regions.

"During the night, 24 Shaheds were shot down by sky defenders in the Mykolaiv, Odesa, Kherson, Kyiv, Khmelnytskyi, Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad, and Vinnytsia regions," reported the Air Force Commander.

Night air attack on June 2

Russian army again launched Shahed strike drones over Ukrainian territory this night. Air raid alerts were declared in several regions.

Additionally, explosions were reported in the Dnipro area. Throughout the night, the Air Force Command also informed about the threat of enemy missile strikes using ballistic missiles.

During yesterday's massive air attack, Russian invaders used a total of 100 missiles and drones to strike Ukraine. Ukrainian air defense forces managed to shoot down more than 80 enemy targets.
