Rio Ferdinand says there's one Liverpool player who is top five in the world in his position right now

Liverpool have a number of quality operators in the ranks right now and Rio Ferdinand believes one player is top five in the world.

The Reds came up short in the title race in the end but showed enough in Jurgen Klopp’s final season to suggest they won’t be far away next term.

Arne Slot is now coming in to take over things and there’s an excitement around the club and where things might lead.

Of course, while new signings will be on the wishlist for Slot and FSG, there’s also a brilliant squad of players already around.

And one of those players, according to Rio Ferdinand, is top five in the world.

Rio Ferdinand says Virgil van Dijk s one of the best around

Speaking to GiveMeSport and going through who he believes are the top five in the world, Rio Ferdinand named Van Dijk in his list, insisting the Liverpool man had been ‘solid all year.

Interestingly, four of Ferdinand’s picks in the five were from the Premier League.

Ferdinand named Manchester City’s John Stones, Arsenal’s Gabriel and William Saliba, and then Van Dijk alongside Real Madrid star, Toni Rudiger.

Van Dijk’s longevity is impressive

Ask any Liverpool fan and they’ll tell you they’re taking Van Dijk over any of the others here all day long.

The Dutchman has been an absolute colossus for the Reds ever since signing and it’s little wonder that whenever he’s missing, the Reds suffer.

For Van Dijk to still be in that list from Ferdinand is impressive as well.

Now 32, Van Dijk is a touch older than the other names mentioned but he still doesn’t look out of place and remains a class act.

Put simply, any team in world football would take Van Dijk if he was available and in terms of legacy signings left from theJurgen Klopp era, the big Dutchman is right up there as one of the best.

Ferdinand’s inclusion of him here, then, is more than justified.
