Report: Italian giants join Aston Villa in race to sign 'one of the best midfielders in the world'

Italian giants have joined Aston Villa in the race to sign a highly-rated midfielder this summer transfer window, according to a recent report.

Villa finished fourth last term, thus qualifying for the illustrious Champions League and Unai Emery will now be desperate to add his squad.

Douglas Luiz has been linked with a move away and if he is to depart, it seems Emery has a target lined up to replace him.

Aston Villa face competition for Matteo Guendouzi

According to TuttoJuve, Italian giants Juventus have joined Aston Villa in the race to sign Lazio midfielder Matteo Guendouzi.

The former Arsenal man is maturing into ‘one of the best midfielders in the world’ and is expected to be in demand this summer, despite his Lazio loan deal becoming permanent on July 1st.

Villa are reportedly willing to offer £26m for his signature, as Emery is keen to reunite with his former player, whom he signed at Arsenal in 2018.

Though, at this stage, it remains unclear if he’d prefer to stay in Italy and perhaps move to Juve.

Douglas Luiz could be key in deal for Matteo Guendouzi

Juventus have been linked with a move for Luiz, so perhaps the two clubs could agree on a compromise.

If he does end up departing for Turin, Juve could pull out of the race for Guendouzi, allowing Villa to be in pole position.

Indeed, The Villans won’t want to lose Luiz but Financial Fair Play regulations may force them to trade this summer.
