'Lurking in the background': Chelsea could yet beat Arsenal to signing 'incredible' £55m player - journalist

Chelsea are looking at a number of new players and could now be in the mix to sign a forward very much on the radar of Arsenal.

The Blues have appointed a new manager in the form of Enzo Maresca and are now looking to give their new coach the players needed to succeed.

Chelsea’s plan so far under the new ownership has been to target young players and tie them to long-term contracts.

The likes of Enzo Fernandez, Nicolas Jackson, and Moises Caicedo are among the big signings Todd Boehly and co have made in recent times.

And according to journalist Dean Jones, Chelsea are ‘lurking’ when it comes to on of Europe’s top young forwards.

Chelsea in the mix to sign Arsenal target Benjamin Sesko

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones has said that he continues to be told that Chelsea are lurking when it comes to Sesko.

“We expected developments on this situation this week, and one of the key moments has arrived in that it has been reported Arsenal have turned the players head – to the extent that he is indeed willing to make the move,” Jones said.

“If that is the case, then it means he is on board with the understanding of how he would be used in the team, and that he would accept he is not guaranteed game time and will have to earn it.

“It’s significant, but we have to consider there are other factors at play and he may well have intimated to other interested clubs that he is interested in their projects, too. It’s a big step forward for Arsenal and Sesko but we’re still not quite at the stage of being able to say this is definitely going to happen.

“I have continued to hear that Chelsea were lurking in the background on this player because he is a great opportunity at a good price-point, and could become their main Victor Osimhen back-up plan.”

Described as an ‘incredible‘ young talent, Sesko has smashed in 18 goals this season.

Mykhailo Mudryk part two coming up for Chelsea and Arsenal?

We all remember this one. Arsenal looked like they’d got a deal for Mudryk tied up before Chelsea swooped in at the last minute and beat them to it.

Could it happen again with Sesko? Well, you just never know in football.

Given Chelsea need a striker and also the fact Sesko is available for around £55m and under 23, he very much fits the bill of a Chelsea signing right now.

Whether or not Arsenal can get this over the line before the Blues get involved, remains to be seen.

But it could well turn into Mudryk part deux if the Gunners are not careful.
