Rodrygo doubles down in response to Real Madrid exit speculation

By Joshua Browne

Real Madrid forward Rodrygo reiterated his desire to stay at the club following Saturday night's Champions League victory, having sparked speculation over his future in the build-up to the final.

Rodyrgo ignited fears in the Madrid fan base when he repeatedly rejected the chance to rule out an exit from Los Blancos when he spoke to DAZN in the build-up to Saturday's victory, saying: "Yes. Well...anything can happen. I have a contract here, but I don't know."

He clarified his comments on social media platform X after the interview, stating: "A very annoying situation occurred today, where one of my interviews was completely taken out of context.

"To be very direct, I am very happy at Real Madrid. I live a dream every day and it does not cross my mind to leave the club of my life. Now we continue with history to make - by 15. Hala Madrid and nothing more."

At full-time after Madrid secured a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo told reporters: "Of course, I'm going to stay at Real Madrid. Why should I leave? I'm staying."

Since moving to the Bernabeu from Santos in July 2019, Rodrygo has clinched three La Liga titles and two Champions Leagues. There have been rumours linking him with a move to the Premier League, with both Liverpool and Manchester City reportedly interested in a future deal.

Rodrygo, whose contract at the Bernabeu runs until June 2028, made 50 appearances across all competitions for Carlo Ancelotti's side this season. The 23-year-old scored 17 goals and provided nine assists, playing a crucial role as Madrid won La Liga and secured the Champions League title for a record 15th time.

He led the frontline alongside fellow countryman Vinicius Junior on Saturday evening at Wembley and was replaced by Eder Militao in stoppage time as the Spanish giants looked to defend a lead over the Germans.
