A new goalkeeper looks to be on the agenda for Newcastle United.
While Nick Pope is so highly rated by Eddie Howe that the Newcastle boss was “crestfallen” about his injury back in December, it seems the club are looking to strengthen.
Indeed, despite the fact Pope wants to stay, there have been links with the likes of Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale and Valencia stopper, Giorgi Mamardashvili.
With Martin Dubravka seemingly being allowed to leave, it makes sense to try and strengthen.
In fact, its not only the first and second choice stoppers Newcastle are looking to freshen up, it seems.
Following the departure of Loris Karius, the club are reportedly on the lookout for a potential replacement, albeit Mark Gillespie has had his contract extended.
Now, a new name has emerged as a potential target.
A vastly experienced custodian once hailed as “fantastic” by Jose Mourinho is believed to be of interest.

According to the print edition of the Sunday Sun (page 60 on 02/06/2024), Newcastle are one of the teams interested in Asmir Begovic.
The 36-year-old is out of contract with QPR and is also attracting interest from West Ham and clubs in Saudi Arabia.

It may be something of a surprise to see Howe link back up with Begovic.
Back during their time together at Bournemouth, there were media reports suggesting there had been a bust-up between the pair.
While Howe denied that, he told Sky Sports he held talks with the stopper about his lack of regular action at that time.
“There’s been no bust-up, no dispute, just a chat and a talk, and I’m very happy with where Asmir is at,” he said in 2019.
“He has been training excellently and that’s the main thing as far as I am concerned.”
Still, Howe does seem to be happy to reunite with players from his time on the south coast, with Newcastle reportedly close to signing Lloyd Kelly.
