4-star LB Gavin Nix names top six schools

Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy four-star linebacker Gavin Nix is down to six schools in his recruitment, he told On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Among the remaining contenders are Florida State, Oregon, Miami, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Stanford.

In March, he told On3’s Chad Simmons that the schools “on his radar” heading into the spring were Florida, Florida State and Miami, as well as Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon and Texas A&M as well.

Since then, he’s dropped the Gators and Aggies from his list and added the Cardinal.

Nix currently has official visits locked in with the Hurricanes (June 7), Ducks (June 14) and Seminoles (June 21).

In-state schools making Nix feel like a major priority

While Florida might’ve dropped off his list, Nix is taking a long look at the other two major in-state programs in the Sunshine State. Both FSU and Miami have have made him feel like a major priority on their 2025 boards.

“It starts with Coach Mike Norvell at Florida State,” he told Simmons in March. “He is the head of the monster over there. He is unlike any head coach that I interact with and that trickles all the way down to the staff and team. Coach Adam Fuller is high energy and Coach Randy Shannon is an OG and so wise. I love what they have going on down there.”

As for the Hurricanes, their consistency has made them one of his top schools.

“I wanted to take that official visit because the love that they’ve been showing has been really consistent,” Nix told CaneSport. “They have a great vision down there, and I think Miami will be back in the next few years. I just want to get some more intel, and they’re really one of my top contenders.”

However, he isn’t ruling out the other programs on his list, and says location won’t play a big factor in his decision.

“It is opportunity over location for me,” Nix told Simmons. “Location isn’t a big deal for me. The main things for me are, what a school can do for me as a person outside of football and where I can be best developed. It is about the fit, not about the location. I just want to excel as a man on and off the field.”

As a junior last fall playing for national powerhouse IMG, Nix totaled 42 tackles (7 TFL), five quarterback hurries and a sack in eight games.
