Newcastle United are trying to act quickly ahead of the summer transfer window.
Indeed, the period in which clubs can trade players and the like does not open for another few days but Newcastle are already making moves.
Lloyd Kelly of Bournemouth is said to be close to joining Eddie Howe at St James’ Park after talks with the free agent defender.
The club also planned to sign Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo but have since been leapfrogged by Premier League rivals Chelsea.
Now, they have their work cut out when it comes to landing another reported target.
Newcastle will have to work very quickly to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili
Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili is just one of the goalkeepers to have been linked with a move to Newcastle.
Nick Pope is keen to stay at the club but that has not stopped the links with potential signings in that department, with Martin Dubravka reportedly set to be allowed to depart.
Last month, it was claimed that Newcastle were keen to try and sign the Georgia international before this summer’s European Championship, which begins on Friday 14 June.
The Chronicle now add that the 23-year-old – who has a release clause worth around £85m in his deal (though Newcastle may be looking to do a deal for closer to the £30m mark) – wants his future wrapped up by the start of Euro 2024 too.
That means Newcastle have fewer than two weeks to land him.
Worryingly, the report also adds that Chelsea are keeping a close eye on the shot-stopper too…

Howe is believed to be a big fan of Mamardashvili’s but that does not mean it’s an absolute guarantee he will arrive.
In fact, HITC Football insider Graeme Bailey recently told Geordie Boot Boys that his price tag may be an issue, which could make Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale a more likely signing.
