'I just don't get it': Pundit left baffled after hearing who wants to sign Bruno Fernandes from Manchester United

Shaka Hislop has admitted that he is surprised to see reports claiming one club is now looking to sign Bruno Fernandes from Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

It is going to be so intriguing to see how United approach the window, with doubts continuing over the future of Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

Of course, plenty of changes are happening behind the scenes, with a number of new faces arriving in recent months, so there may be a surprise or two in the transfer market – including which players leave the club.

Bruno Fernandes was one of the few positives about United’s campaign last year, with the Portuguese scoring 15 goals in all competitions. Rio Ferdinand noted how United learned how important Bruno was when he was absent for the defeats to Crystal Palace and Arsenal.

Pundit baffled as Bayern Munich reportedly eye Bruno Fernandes

O Jogo in Portugal reported over the weekend that Bayern Munich are in talks over a move for Bruno, so perhaps United will have to find a way to move forward without him in the coming months.

However, speaking on ESPN, Shaka Hislop cannot quite believe that Vincent Kompany’s men are genuinely pushing to sign the 29-year-old.

“First of all, the Bayern Munich thing, I just don’t get it, it doesn’t fit for me, for all of the reasons that Ale and Juls just mentioned,” he said.

“From a Bruno Fernandes perspective, he’s the star of the show at Old Trafford, he is the kingpin in the red part of Manchester, and he wants to see things built around him. From a Manchester United perspective, and we’ve made a lot of this about their financial issues, yes, Sir Jim Ratcliffe coming in, maybe inject some cash, but how does that play with the sustainability regulations? So if he’s a sellable asset, then if there is genuine interest, which again, I am not 100 percent certain that there is genuine interest from Bayern Munich, then Manchester United may be tempted.”

Vincent Kompany also eyeing another Manchester United player

Interestingly, it would appear that Bruno is not the only Manchester United player who may end up on Bayern’s radar over the coming months.

Journalist Ben Jacobs recently suggested that Bayern are also one to watch in the race to sign Harry Maguire, with Kompany a big admirer of the centre-back.

Manchester United may be aware of how difficult it may be to sell a number of their players this summer, particularly after securing their worst ever Premier League finish this past season.

So while they may prefer to keep the likes of Maguire and Bruno, they may perhaps feel that they have to keep their options open until they have a better idea of who is wanted elsewhere this summer.
