How Leeds United would have to line-up now if Joe Rodon, Willy Gnonto and six others left club

As things stand at Leeds United, plenty of players are due to leave whether that be the end of their loan, they are sold or their Elland Road contract is about to expire.

Connor Roberts and Jaidon Anthony have both confirmed on social media that they are leaving Leeds and returning to parent clubs Burnley and Bournemouth, and it could see Roberts face Leeds next season.

It remains to be seen where Joe Rodon’s future lies. The Tottenham defender sparkled for Daniel Farke’s side having joined the club on loan, but without promotion it is unclear if Leeds will manage to keep him.

Given Leeds are strapped for cash, it is unlikely a permanent deal can be arranged but perhaps the hope of another loan with a view to a permanent deal could tempt Spurs into letting Leeds have Rodon again.

Elsewhere, Leeds will need to sell players and two expected to go are Crysencio Summerville and Willy Gnonto. Their sales could see Leeds rake in £50m, with Summerville rated between £35m and £40m.

Liam Cooper, Jamie Shackleton and Sam Byram are all out of contract come June 30. The chances are that all eight players mentioned will be at different clubs next season, so how do Leeds line-up right now?

How Leeds line-up now if eight players now leave Elland Road

It is a massive chunk of Farke’s side simply gone and replacements will need to be brought in, while maintaining a profit and that will be down to the work of Nick Hammond, Gretar Steinsson and others.

Illan Meslier would remain in goal, while right-back would still be where Archie Gray is situated. In the middle of the defence, we may now see a new combination of Pascal Struijk and Ethan Ampadu.

Junior Firpo, another to be linked with an exit, would remain as first choice on the left of the defence after a wonderful second half to the Championship campaign in which he laid on a huge eight assists.

New combinations in defence, on the flanks and in attack

Glen Kamara and Ilia Gruev do not look as though they will be going anywhere and they will remain in midfield, but it is all change in attack and that is if Georginio Rutter and Dan James end up staying put.

Rutter suggested he will be staying with a post on Instagram but Jon Newsome says he can see play-off rivals Southampton signing James. Right now, James is not being linked with the Elland Road exit door.

On the right then, James would replace Gnonto and Rutter would remains in the 10 slot. Losing star man Summerville as well as Anthony and Gnonto would mean Mateo Joseph is the next-best on the left flank.

Up top, a pick between Joel Piroe and Patrick Bamford, with Piroe finishing the stronger as Bamford was forced to watch from the sidelines due to injury. Clearly, there is work to be done and depth is needed.
