Pedro Neto is widely expected to leave Wolves this summer – but one club who are seemingly not in the hunt at the moment are Liverpool.
It is thought that Wolves won’t have a repeat of last summer where a plethora of stars left the club in order to balance the books. But, very possibly, there could still be a couple of big departures.
Neto has long been linked with a move away from Molineux, after shining across his 24 appearances in 2023/24.
There has long been a feeling that the Portuguese will be the next big name to leave.
Plenty of clubs have been linked. But apparently, Liverpool are not looking to sign the player in the summer window…
Liverpool don’t want Wolves star Pedro Neto for two reasons
Back in March, Liverpool were reported to be keen on Neto, along with Premier League champions Manchester City.
There has been quite a bit of speculation about the future of Mo Salah in recent times, with the 31-year-old heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.
Neto would seemingly be a direct replacement for the Egyptian on their right wing.
But journalist Ben Jabobs believes there is currently no interest in the player from Liverpool, offering two reasons why.
He told GIVE ME SPORT: “Liverpool and Pedro Neto have been linked, but I’m told that’s not one that they are necessarily looking at, at the moment, partly because Wolves are going to insist on £60 million plus.
“And also the player’s injury record at that price is maybe putting off Liverpool.”
Previously, it has been claimed that Newcastle also had some reservations about signing Neto this summer because of his injury record.
Neto – described as ‘outstanding’ by club legend John Richards – sustained two serious hamstring injuries in 2023/24, and has previously suffered bad knee and ankle injuries.
Should Wolves actually sell for £60 million, then it would see them smash their previous player sale record that saw Matheus Nunes join Manchester City.
Neto decision may come after Euro 2024
So Liverpool, like Newcastle, have some concerns about the player’s injury record, which is understandable.
Neto is amazing for Wolves when he plays. But he has spent plenty of time on the sidelines during his five years at Molineux.
Clubs want to ensure that when they buy players for big players, there are as few risks attached to the signing as possible.
Perhaps Liverpool and others may want to see Neto in action at Euro 2024 before making a final decision. If he comes through that unscathed and plays well then perhaps there will be more of a willingness to bid.
