Nils Koppen jets into Latin America as Rangers guru looks for killer handshake on top targets

Nils Koppen has one heck of a job on his hands at Rangers.

The Belgian recruitment guru is a well known face in the world of football transfers and helped build PSV Eindhoven into the Eredivisie champions they became this season.

Working with Philippe Clement and the Rangers recruitment board, the challenge is simple for Nils Koppen and co.

Rangers want young, hungry talent on cost-effective transfers who can develop at Ibrox, win us trophies, and eventually bank us a fortune.

No pressure, Nils.

As part of that Koppen is a regular at the TransferRoom summits and after attending a meet in Rome earlier in the year, the Belgian is now bound for Mexico!

Koppen attends TransferRoom

This summer’s TransferRoom summit kicks off this morning in Cancún and Nils Koppen will be in attendance flying the Rangers flag.

This comes after reports last week confirmed that Nils Koppen was heading to Mexico for the special conference.

The transfer summits are designed to be meeting places for agents, representation, football clubs and recruitment professionals.

They are an extension of the TransferRoom software and in football’s increasingly data-driven age, they can be a useful resource.

Rangers have already benefitted from one such conversation at the summit, with Oscar Cortes’ discovery attributed to a meeting via the conference.

Now, Nils Koppen jets out to Mexico with one eye on what happens next as Rangers brace for a busy transfer window.

And it’s certainly an apt location given some of the links surrounding the Ibrox side this summer.

Rangers target Latin American transfers

Latin America has always been a hotbed of footballing talent.

From Mexico to Brazil, from Argentina to Ecuador, some of the world’s greatest footballers have emerged from central and South America.

And now Rangers are hoping to get a leg up on other European competition when it comes to the best young talent by striking relationships across the region.

Nils Koppen’s transfer vision also appears to encompass a number of Latin players, with Brazilian left-back Jefte joining countryman Danilo and Colombian Oscar Cortes at Ibrox.

Rangers also moved to sign Ecuadorean international Jose Cifuentes last summer, although it didn’t exactly go to plan with the ex-LAFC star now out on loan at Cruzeiro in Brazil.

But that hasn’t dissuaded the club who continue to be linked with a number of Latin American talents this summer.

Chileno defender Thomas Galdames continues to be linked whilst the likes of Uruguayan midfielder Damian Garcia have also been mentioned.

A recent report in Bulgaria has also sought to explain precisely why Rangers’ pursuit of Panamanian defender Jose Cordoba ended last week.

You can bet there will be a number of representatives from clubs all over the region in Mexico at the TransferRoom summit.

Nils Koppen is a veteran of the conferences and we wonder if it’s in Cancun that the Belgian delivers the killer handshake to bring the latest young Latin American talent to Rangers.
