Ukraine to open embassy in the Philippines after historic first visit between leaders of the two nations

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

“Ukraine plans to open an embassy in Manila this year to strengthen bilateral cooperation," Zelenskyy announced.

"I am grateful to the Philippines for supporting Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, for their clear stance against Russia's aggression towards our country, and for backing important UN resolutions.”

The Philippines' participation in the upcoming Global Peace Summit in Switzerland was among the topics discussed.

Zelenskyy also highlighted the significance of the Global Peace Summit and the importance of the representation of Southeast Asian countries.

"We also discussed bilateral cooperation, particularly the export of Ukrainian agricultural products to the Philippines," he added.

President Zelenskyy arrived in the Philippines on the morning of June 3.

The meeting between the presidents was scheduled for 8:00 a.m. local time (3:00 a.m. Kyiv time) at Malacañang Palace, the official residence of the Philippine president.
