And the player’s father has now added fuel to the fire, telling Sky Sport Germany: “We have not yet made a commitment to any club.

“What we can confirm is that we have received several written offers. Not just from Bayern Munich.

“Many clubs, especially from the Premier League, have been very interested in Assan. There are teams from England who would like to sign Assan directly for their professional team in the summer. We will make the right decision soon.”

Will Liverpool make a move for Schalke star Assan Ouedraogo?

Liverpool already have a handful of young midfielders among their ranks, with Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott leading the way in that regard.

But Ouedraogo could be added to the mix ahead of the new season, giving Slot a new and exciting option in that area.

The 18-year-old is, however, very versatile, and has proven in his brief career so far that he can play in the middle and out wide.

Despite his youth, Ouedraogo has already hit the headlines for several reasons, having won the U17 World Cup with Germany, and having also scored on his Schalke debut, becoming the club’s youngest goalscorer in the process.

Comparing the midfielder to the likes of Xabi Alonso and Michael Essien, the official Bundesliga website praised the player’s ‘explosive pace and power,’ which would be warmly welcomed at Anfield.
