Report: What Mauricio Pochettino really loved about Conor Gallagher at Chelsea

Mauricio Pochettino was not at Chelsea for long.

He joined Chelsea last summer before leaving the club towards the end of May.

However, despite not being at Stamford Bridge for years, Mauricio Pochettino quickly developed a good rapport with his players, including Conor Gallagher.

It was claimed that the Chelsea squad was sad after hearing that the Argentine had left the club.

Gallagher would have been especially devastated. He was one of Pochettino’s favourites, making 50 appearances under him this season.

Mauricio Pochettino’s view of Conor Gallagher

After playing him 50 times in one season, it is clear to see that Pochettino held Gallagher in high regard.

To Chelsea, Gallagher is probably not as valuable as Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, the club’s two most expensive signings ever.

However, that was not the case for Pochettino.

According to GiveMeSport, Pochettino loved Gallagher and the reason behind that was because of his passion and dedication for Chelsea among other things.

While Gallagher may be committed to Chelsea, they do not seem to be as committed to him. The midfielder is yet to be offered a new contract and could be sold this summer.

What can Conor Gallagher do to convince Chelsea to keep hold of him?

Because of profit and sustainability rules, Chelsea may have to sell Gallagher and some others in the summer transfer window.

After making so many appearances under Pochettino this season, the 24-year-old has probably proven that he is good enough to play for Chelsea.

He now has a chance to prove that even further. Gallagher is with the England squad right now ahead of Euro 2024.

If Gallagher can have a good tournament, show the Chelsea board what he can do on the biggest stage, perhaps that could convince them to keep their academy graduate and hand him a new contract. As of now, though, you would have to fear for his future in west London, especially now that Pochettino is gone.
