Report: Chelsea are now eyeing move for 6ft 4inch player, Enzo Maresca really wants someone like him

It looks like Enzo Maresca has made it clear what he needs to be a success at Chelsea.

Following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino last month, Enzo Maresca is set to replace the Argentine as Chelsea manager.

The 44-year-old is making a swift exit from Leicester City after only joining them last summer.

However, he was able to win them promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

He is now set to join Chelsea and already knows where he wants to strengthen.

What does Enzo Maresca want?

According to the Daily Mirror, Maresca wants a ball-playing shot-stopper in goal at Chelsea.

As a result, the Blues are now eyeing a move for Las Palmas’ Alvaro Valles.

Chelsea only signed Djordje Petrovic and Robert Sanchez from New England Revolution and Brighton & Hove Albion respectively last summer.

However, it is clear that the club and Maresca feel that another No.1 is needed.

It will now be interesting to see whether Chelsea make a move for Valles or not.

Alvaro Valles’ stats this season

This season, the average length of Valles’ passing was 27.3 yards, which was one of the shortest in La Liga, according to FBref.

It shows that the 6ft 4inch goalkeeper is not looking for the longest ball and is instead trying to find a team-mate who is not too far.

Valles also had a 74.3% save percentage, showing that he was not the worst shot-stopper in the division either.

He has got the height, then, the ability to play out and decent shot-stopping skills it seems.

Whether it is Valles or someone else, it does look like Chelsea will sign a new goalkeeper this summer, and that would obviously be bad news for Petrovic and Sanchez. Maresca will not be able to keep all three happy, so it would not be a surprise to see one of them leave before the transfer window slams shut.
