Fabrizio Romano now shares what he's heard about Man City's reported interest in signing Mike Maignan

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed what he knows about Manchester City being interested in signing Mike Maignan.

It was reported on Sunday that Manchester City would make a move for the Frenchman if Ederson left the club as he is their “top target.”

Mike Maignan’s contract with AC Milan expires in the summer of 2026.

Fabrizio Romano reveals what he knows about Mike Maignan and Man City

Since joining the Italian giants in 2021, the 28-year-old has cemented his reputation as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

The Cayenne-born goalkeeper is also set to be in between the sticks for France for the next couple of years.

Speaking to CaughtOffside, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that he has not heard any news about a potential move to Manchester City involving Mike Maignan.

Romano said: “As I recently revealed, there are chances for Ederson to leave Manchester City this summer, so it’s normal to now see goalkeepers being linked with the Premier League champions.”

“However, despite links with AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, I have no info yet on a new Manchester City goalkeeper, also because it will depend on what Ederson wants to do. At the moment, it’s too early to say. Many goalkeepers will be linked with Man City now but I don’t have anything confirmed yet.”

Mike Maignan will only be targeted if Ederson leaves Man City

It was reported on Friday that City will only sell the Brazilian if he demands an exit this summer.

As a result, Fabrizio Romano’s revelation about Manchester City signing a new goalkeeper, whether that is Mike Maignan or any other replacement depends on the £35 million man’s future adds up.

Ederson’s performances remain world-class and it does not seem like City deem him upgradeable.

The only slight complaint the club would have with the 30-year-old is the number of times he got injured this season.

But against Liverpool, Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur, the six-time Premier League winner suffered impact injuries.

Otherwise, Ederson is not injury-prone, as is the case with goalkeepers historically.

The only piece of advice one could give to Manchester City is to keep tabs on Mike Maignan regardless.

In the event that Ederson decides to leave the club, there are not many goalkeepers who can even be deemed worthy to succeed him; hence, leaving it too late to sign Maignan would be a risk.
