'In excess...': Sunderland name 8-figure price tag for 'fantastic' player amid PL interest - journalist

Sunderland have named their price for Jobe Bellingham amid interest from the Premier League.

Jobe Bellingham joined Sunderland last summer for an initial £1.5 million.

The ‘fantastic’ midfielder went onto score seven goals in 45 appearances in the Championship and has continuously attracted interest from elsewhere.

It was previously reported that even Real Madrid had sent scouts to watch Bellingham, in the hope that they could tempt him to reunite with his brother in Spain.

Jobe has now caught the eye of Brentford and Crystal Palace though, with reports claiming that the latter are already‘in talks’ to take the 18-year-old to the English capital.

The teenager has already made it clear how much he is enjoying his time on Wearside, but it is unclear whether he would be tempted by a move to Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace are known for bringing through promising young players from the EFL to the Premier League, with Adam Wharton the most recent to earn himself a place in the England squad after only 16 appearances for the Eagles.

Sunderland are ‘determined’ to keep hold of Jobe Bellingham

The Guardian journalist Ed Aarons has now reported that Sunderland are ‘determined’ to keep hold of Bellingham, but has also claimed they do have an asking price for the youngster.

Writing on X, Aarons said: “Understand that Sunderland are determined to try and keep Jobe Bellingham this summer. Tottenham, Brentford, Crystal Palace and several clubs in Europe are interested in the 18-year-old, with Sunderland believed to want a fee in excess of £20m if they are to sell.”

Is Jobe Bellingham worth over £20 million?

Jobe Bellingham has played significantly more games in the Championship than Adam Wharton had before he earned himself a £22 million move to the top flight.

He is also almost two years his junior, so could arguably hold even more potential than the 20-year-old.

If Palace paid £22m for Wharton, then it makes complete sense that Sunderland would demand a similar price for Jobe.

Whether they will pay that is another question, but Sunderland should really hope they don’t.

Jobe is only just getting started at the Stadium of Light and could prove to be a really important player next season.

It seems a lot more accepting to let him leave next summer, when he could be worth even more money.
