It’s safe to say things are hotting up a bit when it comes to players being linked with moves to Liverpool this summer.
With Arne Slot now officially in charge and May out of the way, we’ve entered the season of transfer speculation and Liverpool are one of the most mentioned clubs.
Of course, FSG are keen to strengthen the squad for Slot this summer and there’s a number of players already being linked.
Crysencio Summerville keeps getting a mention, while this weekend we saw the likes of Santiago Gimenez and Mohammed Kudus were both linked once again.
However, there was a new name mentioned as well, in the form of Aston Villa midfielder, Douglas Luiz.
And looking at some of the past comments about Luiz, it seems he’s a player who has impressed former Reds skipper, Steven Gerrard.

Of course, Liverpool legend Gerrard came across Luiz up close and personal while in charge of Villa.
Gerrard knows a thing or two about being a top midfield player and back in 2022, with Luiz’s future up in the air at Villa, Gerrard praised the Brazilian for how he’d gone about his business.
“Am I surprised by the speculation? No, because we have got a young Brazilian player who is a fantastic talent,” Gerrard told the Daily Mail.
“I expect to be asked this question a lot as the season progresses. We want him to stay here. I think the owners were very strong in keeping him here.
‘We didn’t want to lose him on the final day and he’s performed very well since.”
Incidentally, Luiz did indeed sign a new long-term contract with Villa just a month after those comments from Gerrard.
Luiz shows the right attitude to succeed at Liverpool
These comments from Gerrard are interesting when you look at the Reds being keen on Luiz.
Clearly, he was a player in good enough form to be attracting interest from other clubs, which is a good selling point in itself.
However, the fact Gerrard praised him for how he’d performed after not getting his move away also shows a fine character trait in Luiz.
This is the sort of thing Liverpool fans love about a player and at the end of the day, if Steven Gerrard says you are fantastic, then that holds weight at Anfield.
Luiz, then, could be a fine signing for the Reds this summer.
