Penn State tweets of the day

We start with a rundown of a terrific weekend for Penn State connections at U23 Nationals and U20 Team Trials. Five Nittany Lion connections made the U.S. U20 World team: Second-year PSU wrestler Josh Barr (86 kilograms), Class of 2024 signees Luke Lilledahl (57 kilograms), Zack Ryder (79 kilograms), and Connor Mirasola (92 kilograms), and Class of 2025 commit PJ Duke (70 kilograms) will all represent their county at U20 Worlds in Spain this September. Ryder took out Iowa’s Gabe Arnold in his final.

“At 79 kg, Zack Ryder, a two-time U17 World bronze medalist, bested Gabriel Arnold of Iowa in the championship series,” Savannah Asmann writes for USA Wrestling. “Ryder was another athlete that sat out to the finals, coming out strong for the U20 World Team Trials title. The first round saw Ryder take an early lead with a four-point move, but Arnold was able to tie it 4-4. With Arnold leading on criteria, Ryder forced the Hawkeye out of bounds for the step out point. Round two was also in Ryder’s favor as he was able to secure a 4-2 decision.”

As for the U23 level, Aaron Nagao was pinned by Bucknell’s Kurt Phipps in the 61-kilogram semi finals and appeared to suffer an injury. No update was immediately available. At 86 kilograms, Lucas Cochran fell to John Gunderson of the Panther Wrestling Club in the finals.

“What stands out for them is the relationship I have with them. Me and Coach Seider send each other reels all day and are cracking up, so yeah, that’s my guy. Me and Coach Poindexter are on the phone every week. I actually got to meet his family this weekend, so that was great.”
