Two more bodies have been found in a flooded cellar in Baden-Württemberg state in south-western Germany, which has been affected by heavy rain and flooding.

Firefighters recovered the two bodies after pumping water from a flooded cellar in the town of Schorndorf in Rems-Murr district, police told dpa in Stuttgart on Monday.

The exact circumstances of the deaths are still unclear.

In a statement, police described the deceased as a man and a woman. However, the identities of the two have not been confirmed.

A criminal investigation has been launched.

The Rems-Murr district was particularly affected by the flooding in south-western Germany.

Flooding there had unexpectedly worsened overnight.

Residents in the affected communities in the district had been evacuated as a precautionary measure early Monday.

Earlier, workers discovered the body of a missing 43-year-old woman in the cellar of a house in Bavaria.

Heavy rains and flooding across Baden-Württemberg and neighbouring Bavaria caused disruption throughout the weekend, causing thousands of people to leave their homes.
