Young Celtic talent awaiting further contract talks despite English interest

Celtic are now well into the off-season and Brendan Rodgers has decisions to make on his existing squad options.

Conceivably, the Irishman will be working with club chiefs to identify and pursue targets; however, speculation is rife across the board, with movement set to occur in both directions.

Despite the excitement associated with acquiring new arrivals, securing the future of existing talent at Parkhead is another important endeavour that needs to be prioritised.

Daniel Kelly falls into this bracket, and reports have recently suggested that Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are willing to offer the 18-year-old a wage of around £9,000 per week to move south of the border.

The Bhoys have offered him new terms with his contract set to expire in December; however, it is thought the proposal is worth three or four times less than the advances from the cash-rich Premier League duo.

Bayer Leverkusen, Bologna and Como have also expressed interest, though a fresh report has now come to light explaining his situation.

Daniel Kelly awaits further contract talks with Celtic

According to Football Scotland, Kelly is awaiting further contract talks with Celtic and his preference is to sign an extension at Parkhead.

The outlet claim Tottenham aren’t in the race for his signature; however, Manchester United are reportedly keeping tabs on his situation.

Nevertheless, nothing is set in stone and his future will continue to be a talking point until official communication emerges once it is resolved.

Per Transfermarkt, the highly-rated Scotland Under-19 international made six senior appearances for Celtic in 2023/24, earning valuable experience under the guidance of Brendan Rodgers.

His solitary goal for the Bhoys came against Dundee in late February, and club captain Callum McGregor is among those to have endorsed his talent since making his first-team breakthrough.

With the youngster under the spotlight, Celtic should look to tie him up on an extension if possible to avoid losing one of their rising homegrown stars.
