Fabrizio Romano says Manchester United top target will be pursued 'as soon as they clarify the manager position'

Manchester United’s moves for the summer are currently in limbo until Ineos decide on the future of Erik ten Hag.

Once a decision is taken by Ineos on the club’s next manager, Erik ten Hag or otherwise, then the club’s transfer business can kick into gear.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says Manchester United have already decided on a profile of player for the club’s first piece of summer transfer business.

Speaking on YouTube, Romano says United have three options identified, and will step up pursuit of the centre-back.

Manchester United want right-footed centre-back

Manchester United’s top priority is to sign a right-footed centre-back who would replace departing defender Raphael Varane.

Romano explains: “Manchester United as soon as they clarify the manager position they will go for a right-footed centre-back.”

He says there are three top options, Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo, Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, and Juventus’ Gleison Bremer.

“They are working to bring in a new right-footed centre-back for sure, it is one of the priorities of the summer.

“Todibo is in the list, Branthwaite is in the list, Gleison Bremer from Juventus is also in the list.”

It is possible United’s choice is a different option beyond those three, but these are the leading contenders for the position at present.

Left-foot option also in the mix

Manchester United are also considering adding another defender, who would play on the opposite side, providing competition and cover for Lisandro Martinez.

Romano says United have been watching Sporting centre-back Goncalo Inacio closely, who will be part of the Portugal squad at 2024.

He explains United are “working on the possibility to bring in a left-footed centre-back,” adding: “It’s not guaranteed yet.”

United’s ability to sign two centre-backs will likely be guided by funds and player sales.

He adds: “One of the players they’ve been scouting is Goncalo Inacio.”

Inacio is also a player of interest to Liverpool, setting up a potential battle between the two clubs for his signature.
