'I am not': EFL chairman claims there's four Premier League clubs Newcastle must not sell to this summer

In a perfect world, Newcastle United are not selling Bruno Guimaraes this summer.

Unless someone activates his £100million release clause, the Magpies are confident that Bruno Guimaraes will be wearing black and white next season.

The same goes for Alexander Isak, who will cost even more money. He is valued at nearly £200million, and it looks like his fondest admirer Arsenal are taking their business elsewhere as they eye Benjamin Sesko.

Eddie Howe is especially keen to keep both players at the club next season, but some fans will always be fearful that one of Newcastle’s stars could depart.

Newcastle United told what they must not do if they decide to sell Bruno Guimaraes

And if that does happen, Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony believes there is one thing that the Magpies absolutely must do – or not do, rather.

MacAnthony has been speaking about Newcastle possibly selling one of their top stars such as Bruno or Isak on TalkSPORT, and is adamant that they must not let them join a Premier League rival.

“You don’t want to lose any of those players that you just mentioned to some of your rivals,” he said.

“And if you want to do a deal, you want them to go out of the country. So, if you have got to sell Bruno, if you have got to sell obviously the striker (Isak), you want to get onto PSG, one of those clubs and say, if I am going to do it, they are leaving the Premier League.

“I am not going to strengthen Arsenal, I am not going to strengthen Chelsea, I am not going to strengthen Manchester United and Liverpool.

“I don’t think Newcastle will sell those players. I think they will find a way.”

MacAnthony makes a great point about Bruno possibly leaving Newcastle

MacAnthony is spot on. It would be an absolute disaster to lose Bruno or Isak this summer, and it would be even worse if we lost them to one of our Premier League rivals.

It would be a major step in the wrong direction, as we continue trying to close the gap on the ‘big six’. That is hard enough with the financial limitations of PSR, never mind giving them one of our world class players.

If the worst did happen and Bruno were to leave, it would ideally be to a foreign club. PSG are probably the most likely suitor, given how relentlessly they have been linked with him in recent years.

But while MacAnthony is correct, the decision might be out of Newcastle’s hands regarding Bruno. That is because of his release clause – if someone activates it, the Magpies become powerless. The club will have no say regarding who he joins. If a team comes in with £100million, then it will simply come down to Bruno’s desire to depart.

However, this is all just scaremongering from the media. The expectation is that Bruno will remain at St James’ Park, and he is going to stay there with Isak. Simply put, Newcastle are not under any pressure to sell.
