Report: £55m player who Newcastle want has decided he wants to sign for Arsenal this summer

There is good and bad news regarding one of Newcastle United’s major summer transfer targets.

The Magpies could be in the market for a striker ahead of next season, with Callum Wilson rumoured to be leaving St James’ Park.

Eddie Howe is keen to keep the number nine at the club, but it has been reported that a move away is likely. That would make sense, as he is 32-years-old and entering the final year of his contract.

However, Newcastle can only let Wilson go if they have a replacement lined up. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been linked, although claims that he is now in talks over a new deal at Goodison Park may scupper the Magpies’ plans to sign him.

Another target is Benjamin Sesko, who can leave RB Leipzig if someone activates his £55million release clause. That would make him one of Newcastle’s most expensive signings ever, and it is a lot of money to pay for someone who would be asked to dovetail with Alexander Isak.

But even if Newcastle do decide to spent that amount of money on the 20-year-old, it might not matter.

Benjamin Sesko keen on Arsenal transfer

That is because Sesko has reportedly decided who he wants to sign for this summer, and sadly it is not Newcastle United.

According to the Mirror, Sesko is currently favouring a move to Premier League runners-up Arsenal.

They are in the market for a striker, with Mikel Arteta recently admitting that they need a consistent source of goals to help them continue growing.

That is what they will hope to get in Sesko, if they are able to complete a deal for the Slovenia international.

With Sesko preferring to take his talents to North London, it is certainly a blow for Newcastle. However, it can also be seen as a positive.

Sesko stance could actually help Newcastle United

With Sesko possibly on his way to Arsenal if he is to move, it means Newcastle will need to find someone else to target should they decide to sell Wilson.

But it also means that Newcastle do not need to worry about Alexander Isak anymore. The 24-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal, leading to some fears that he could leave St James’ Park.

However, the Magpies have had no plans to sell him, valuing Isak at nearly £200million. That is obviously too much for Arsenal to pay, and it appears that they may take their business somewhere else.

It could lead them to Toon target Sesko, which might actually be a blessing in disguise for Eddie Howe. While Sesko is a very talented player with a lot of potential, Isak is a world class talent who Newcastle simply must keep for as long as possible.
