Manchester United fans have a lot to say as Omari Forson decides to quit for free

Manchester United are set to lose Omari Forson on a free transfer with the winger making the decision to quit the club.

One of Manchester United’s promising young players is set to quit the club at the end of the month when his contract expires.

Omari Forson will leave United on a free transfer, with Fabrizio Romano reporting Forson is already attracting interest from other clubs.

Forson, 19, was given his first team debut by Erik ten Hag earlier in 2024 in the FA Cup against Wigan.

Omari Forson set to leave

Omari Forson played a prominent role in pre-season last year, playing in six out of eight matches.

He played well for the under-21 side, scoring seven goals at academy level, before progressing into the first team.

Forson was handed a first start for United in the Premier League against Fulham, controversially selected ahead of Amad.

He played for an hour in the defeat with Erik ten Hag giving a lukewarm verdict on his display as ‘reasonable’.

Forson provided an assist for Kobbie Mainoo‘s last minute winner away at Wolves, and played as a substitute in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley against Coventry.

But by the end of the campaign, Forson had been overtaken by Amad, who started the last three Premier League games.

Forson did not make the bench for Manchester United’s FA Cup Final win over Manchester City.

His contract status has hovered in the background despite his good progress, and the longer it went without a resolution, the more you suspected Forson might quit.

HITC reports teammates Kobbie Mainoo and Willy Kambwala appealed to Forson to stay at United but his mind was made up to leave, and he has informed the club, via his representatives.

There is said to be interested from Newcastle, Crystal Palace, Brentford and Leicester, along with Monaco and RB Leizpig.

It is a brave move from Forson to quit, and the second big move in his career, having joined United from Tottenham four years ago.

Manchester United fans react

Manchester United fans have had a lot to say in reaction to Omari Forson’s decision to quit the club.

One fan on X wrote: “When I didn’t see him at the FA Cup Final I knew he was gone.”

Another said: “It’s sad that he’s leaving and what makes it worse is that he is leaving on a free transfer.”

“Best of luck to Omari Forson, technically talented player but not quite the level required. Also needs to find out his position, stuck between a 10 and RW at the moment,” wrote another.

A fourth fan added: “Gutted to see Omari Forson leave the club but he needs to do what’s best for him.”

Another wrote: “It’s a shame Omari Forson will move on but believe it’s been clear for months.”

“We won’t forget about his assist for Mainoo’s late winner against Wolves,” another added.

A further fan added: “Not many get their first team debut and make multiple appearances at 19 at United. If that wasn’t enough to convince him that he has a future here then he’s clearly not United material.”

While another warned: “We are going to regret this 4 years from now I’ve seen the script.”
