Report: Derby County are 'long-term admirers' of Liverpool gem who Jurgen Klopp dubbed 'special'

Derby County are ‘long-term admirers’ of a Liverpool youngster Jurgen Klopp once dubbed ‘special’.

The transfer window is fast approaching and Derby County have their work cut out to improve their squad.

Paul Warne previously said he needs something in every position, with the former Rotherham boss describing this Championship as the best he’s seen in years.

A market that can be profitable for the 50-year-old, and has been in the past, is acquiring talented youngsters on loan from the Premier League.

In the summer of 2018, the Rams showed how effective it can be after bringing in Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori on loan from Chelsea while also luring tricky winger Harry Wilson from Liverpool.

Derby narrowly missed out on promotion in that campaign, losing in the play-off final to Aston Villa, but Tomori, Wilson and Mount were emerging stars at Pride Park.

With the Rams heading back into the Championship after a two-year hiatus, the loan market is an avenue that is open once more.

Derby County are ‘long-term admirers’ of Liverpool youngster Bobby Clark

In the January transfer window, Warne made a swoop for Liverpool youngster Bobby Clark on loan but they were unsuccessful in their attempts.

The Derby Telegraph now report that Derby are still ‘long-term admirers’ of the young midfielder and could be willing to capture him on a loan deal.

Clark has made a gradual ascent into the first-team ranks at Liverpool, making his Premier League debut in the 9-0 hammering of Bournemouth in August 2022.

The 19-year-old has since made 13 appearances in the senior side, including 47 minutes in the Carabao Cup final win over Chelsea in March while scoring and assisting in the Europa League last 16 tie against Sparta Prague.

Clark is highly regarded as one of Liverpool’s most exciting youngsters and this is reinforced by a comment made by Jurgen Klopp, with the German labelling him as part of a ‘special’ group.

It appears the former Newcastle academy talent has a big future at Anfield, though he could benefit from a loan spell in the Championship.

Why Bobby Clark would benefit from loan spell at Derby

Clark – who scored two and supplied four assists in Premier League 2 last term – would hugely benefit from a loan out of Merseyside.

Not only does Warne have a blank canvas to build from in midfield, boasting just Tyrese Fornah, Darren Robinson and Liam Thompson as options, but the Championship could be the perfect place for his development.

We’ve seen several players go on loan to a second-tier club at the start of their career before going on to have huge success. Harry Kane is a prime example, having experienced a loan to Leicester City in the 2012/13 campaign to now becoming the best striker on the planet.

The scope for development with Clark is incredible, and Warne has proven he can get the best out of young players.

So, while he’s experienced first-team opportunities at Liverpool, they’ve not been regular chances to impress and instead, should move to Derby on loan this summer.
