National boss talks up the potential of 'really exciting' Celtic player

Celtic are in the middle of the off-season as international football takes precedence for the next few weeks.

Many of the Parkhead faithful will have a vested interest in events at EURO 2024 and Copa America; however, that doesn’t mean content surrounding their favourite team ceases to exist, with transfer rumours entering motion as the summer transfer window approaches.

Nevertheless, there is also the matter of loanees returning to Celtic for Brendan Rodgers to contend with. One man set to stake a claim in pre-season is Bosun Lawal, who has enjoyed a productive campaign out on loan at Fleetwood Town, registering six goals and two assists in 47 appearances [Transfermarkt].

In light of his exploits in both midfield and defence, the 21-year-old earned a maiden call-up to the senior Republic of Ireland squad yesterday for their match against Hungary at the Aviva Stadium tonight following an injury to Andrew Omobamidele.

John O’Shea has clearly been impressed by his rise to prominence and has now shed light on why he has belief in the youngster to come into their first-team camp.

“He’s really exciting, but he has to keep developing and after Fleetwood he will go back and see what happens at Celtic.”

There is a fair bit of attention surrounding Lawal at the moment, and his form south of the border has alerted several EFL clubs who are keen to take him on board for the forthcoming campaign.

Nevertheless, Brendan Rodgers is set to hand the former Watford youth a chance to impress in pre-season, which will allow Celtic the opportunity to carry out a closer assessment of whether his capabilities could serve the first team well in 2024/25.

International exposure can only be beneficial for Lawal. Hopefully, he can make his debut for the Boys in Green before his club future comes into focus.
