'Keep an eye': David Ornstein now believes £60m Newcastle target is 'one to watch' this summer

Transfer expert David Ornstein believes one of Newcastle United’s most exciting summer targets is ‘one to watch’ in the coming months.

The Magpies look set to kick off their summer transfer business with a deal for Lloyd Kelly. Newcastle United are hoping to wrap that deal up soon, with the 25-year-old on course to arrive in the North East on a free from Bournemouth.

That type of deal will mean there is more money available to be spent elsewhere, with most of Eddie Howe’s transfer budget set to go towards a new right winger. Newcastle are looking for an improvement on Miguel Almiron, who could potentially leave St James’ Park in the near future.

The Magpies are looking at some big names, as they aim to bring in someone that will compliment Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak in attack.

Newcastle interested in Crystal Palace star

Toon officials have discussed trying to sign the 22-year-old, who is available for £60million this summer. That fee would make him Newcastle’s second most expensive signing ever, and could put him out of the Magpies’ reach.

But Olise is a player who Newcastle are considering bringing to the club, as are Premier League rivals Manchester United and Chelsea.

What David Ornstein has said about Michael Olise

Olise is a man in demand, and transfer expert David Ornstein has commented on the attacker’s future in an article for the Athletic.

The journalist has described Olise, who has a release clause in his contract, as his ‘one to watch’ this summer, imploring readers to ‘keep an eye’ on where he could end up.

Ornstein notes that Newcastle United are one of the clubs that are interested, before going on to describe the youngster as a ‘very thoughtful character who will only move if he is certain it is right for him’.

A move to Newcastle would be great for Olise, but it feels unlikely

With Olise considered ‘one to watch’, it feels like a move away from Selhurst Park is probable. However, it remains to be seen if he will end up in the North East.

At the moment, it feels unlikely. The money involved is surely too much for Newcastle to spend, and there has to reservations over Olise’s fitness. He only made 19 Premier League appearances last season due to a hamstring injury – although he was incredible during those 19 appearances.

Olise recorded 10 goals and six assists last season. He got 16 Premier League goal contributions, which is only five less than Anthony Gordon, who made 35 league appearances.

In terms of pure numbers, Olise looks perfect for the Newcastle frontline. He is streets ahead of Almiron and Jacob Murphy, while he is still of an age where he can get better.

Olise looks ideal for the Newcastle project, and hopefully he recognises that if the Magpies do make an approach. He could be part of something special at St James’ Park, but any deal will likely be dependent on how willing Newcastle are to splash the cash.

Whether it is to the Magpies or someone else, it feels all but certain that Olise will be on the move soon.
