Arsenal are trying to stop 'unplayable' 19-year-old who is like Bukayo Saka joining Newcastle

Arsenal have provided an official update on one of their players that Newcastle United are trying to sign this summer.

The Magpies have a couple of Gunners on their radar ahead of next season, with Aaron Ramsdale a major target as Eddie Howe looks to provide Nick Pope with more competition.

Ramsdale looks like an ideal candidate to arrive at St James’ Park given his history with Howe, but that deal is suddenly in doubt amid claims that Newcastle have launched a £35million bid for Valencia stopper Giorgi Mamardashvili.

If that deal does come to fruition, Newcastle’s pursuit of Ramsdale will be over.

However, he is not the only Arsenal player who the Magpies are trying to sign.

Newcastle interested in Arsenal teenager

The other is Amario Cozier-Duberry, a 19-year-old winger whose contract at the Emirates is due to expire this summer. He is a target for Newcastle, as they look to beef up their youth ranks as well as enhance their first-team squad.

At this moment in time, Cozier-Duberry is going to be leaving Arsenal very soon, although it would not be on a free transfer due to his age. If the teenager were to exit the North London club, they would at least receive some compensation.

But it will be a shadow of what he could be worth in the future, if he is able to live up to his potential. Cozier-Duberry is very highly rated at Arsenal, and has even been compared to Bukayo Saka. He has been described as ‘unplayable’ at times by Jack Wilshere, and that is why the Gunners have not given up trying to keep him.

Arsenal share Amario Cozier-Duberry

Last week, Newcastle United released their retained list, as they confirmed that Matt Ritchie and Paul Dummett would be leaving the club when their contracts expired this summer.

Now Arsenal have done the same, announcing that the likes of Mohamed Elneny and Cedric Soares are on their way out.

However, they have also provided an update on Cozier-Duberry’s status. It has not been confirmed that he is leaving yet, with Arsenal announcing that he is one player who they are still in discussions with ahead of his deal expiring on June 30th.

The clock is ticking for Arsenal to keep hold of one of their talented youngsters, and it would be quite the coup for Newcastle to snatch him away from the capital. Hopefully a decision is made soon, and ideally it ends with him becoming a Toon player.

While we are never going to have Bukayo Saka in a Newcastle United shirt, it would be great to sign the ‘next’ Saka.
