'Garbage and gibberish': Dem strategist thrashes Trump's 'unhinged' response to conviction

Democratic strategist Maria Cardona on Tuesday didn't mince words when discussing the political impact of a guilty verdict in former President Donald Trump's criminal trial last week.

Although some Trump allies are reportedly convinced that being found guilty on 34 felony counts will benefit him politically, Cardona shot down such claims during an appearance on CNN.

In particular, she said that the guilty verdict would make it more likely that Trump would make the 2024 election all about his own personal grievances.

'The press conference that Donald Trump gave after he became a convicted felon was unhinged," she said. "It was all about him. It was all about how he was complaining about retribution and vengeance, and telling the American people, 'If this can happen to me, it can happen to you,' which we all know that's just garbage and gibberish."

She then pointed to polls showing that a majority of American voters believe the jury made the right decision to find Trump guilty of falsifying business records to cover up hush-money payments to an adult film star.

"The more that Donald Trump and his MAGA allies and lemmings and puppets try to focus on this is a rigged system, this is all about Democrats trying to take down Donald Trump, it plays into this message that Donald Trump is in this for himself, that he's in this to try to stay out of prison, and that frees up Joe Biden and his campaign to continue communicating the message that he is in it to continue to help the American people."
