'It just kills you'... Former Bronco and Charger explains Patrick Mahomes' game-changing ability

Patrick Mahomes has taken the league by storm and has already put his hat into the ring when discussing the most talented quarterback of all time.

The Kansas City Chiefs traded up in the 2017 draft to take Patrick Mahomes at 10th overall, which will go down as one of the biggest steals in NFL history.

The Texas Tech rookie sat behind the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith during his rookie campaign.

Patrick Mahomes has entered the same conversations as Tom Brady at just 28

In his sophomore season, when he was made the starting quarterback, he guided the franchise to an AFC Championship overtime loss against Tom Brady’s New England Patriots.

Then he bounced back swiftly to secure his first ring of three against the San Francisco 49ers, who they would defeat in 2024.

Moreover, the 28-year-old has already staked his claim on the Mount Rushmore of QBs.

Mahomes has achieved: three rings, three finals MVPs, and two regular-season MVPs, a feat Brady only reached when he was 37.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ reign of dominance has been mind-blowing, considering they have reached four Super Bowls in five years.

Additionally, under Patrick Mahomes’ leadership, the franchise’s earliest postseason exit has been an AFC Championship overtime loss vs the New England Patriots (2018) and the Cincinnati Bengals (2021).

The Chiefs have dominated the AFC West with the Broncos the last team to win

The Chiefs have reigned supreme in the AFC West long before the emergence of the two-time MVP but his arrival has forced the rest of the division into a battle for second place.

Furthermore, the last franchise to win the division other than the Chiefs was the 2015 Denver Broncos with Peyton Manning.

Former NFL player explains how Mahomes ‘kills the defense’ with his talent

Former Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers cornerback Chris Harris Jr. spoke about the talent of the Chiefs’ signal caller.

“A guy like Mahomes, he can scramble, he can throw on the run, and he makes those crucial plays in the fourth quarter that just kills you,” Harris explained via the Up&Adams Show.

“It kills the defense! You got them pinned down and he comes out and always scrambles. You got to cover longer with Mahomes, that’s an extra two or three seconds with this guy and it just kills you.”

Mahomes’ hybrid talent makes him near-impossible to defend against

Harris explains how Mahomes’ ability to scramble in high-pressure situations as the pocket collapses kills the defense.

Defenses will become drained when the Chiefs’ anchor can turn a seemingly destined sack into a 15-yard scramble.

Ultimately, his ability on the run and navigating the pocket has made Mahomes nearly impossible to nullify.

On Christmas Day 2023, the Las Vegas Raiders believed they had found the blueprint to restricting Mahomes’ talent.

They sacked the Texas native four times, including a strip sack, and registered an interception through their high-pressure system.
