Report: Rodrigo De Paul has actually told £14m player that Atletico Madrid really want to sign him

It has been reported that Rodrigo De Paul has asked one Manchester City player to sign for Atletico Madrid.

Players often go out of their way to convince fellow professionals to sign for their clubs and the Argentine midfielder is no different.

However, Manchester City have been the best team in the world over the past five years, as per Darragh MacAnthony — the type of claim that cannot be made about Atletico Madrid.

Rodrigo De Paul asks Man City star if he’s keen on Atletico Madrid transfer

The last time the Spanish giants won La Liga was in 2021, while City won the Premier League last season.

As for the Champions League, while both teams were knocked out of the competition at the quarter-final stage, Manchester City lifted the coveted trophy in 2023.

According to a report by MARCA, Rodrigo De Paul, Angel Correa and Nahuel Molina have informed Julian Alvarez that Atletico Madrid would be willing to sign him. In addition, Alvarez was quizzed about how open he would be to explore an exit from the Etihad Stadium.

The Argentine trio are also believed to have also informed the £14 million man that he is held in high regard by the club’s sporting director Andrea Berta and other higher-ups at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Atletico Madrid are yet to formally communicate their desire to sign the Manchester City striker.

However, Diego Simeone’s side, who are currently on the lookout for a brand-new number nine have full faith in the 24-year-old being the answer to their problems.

Atletico Madrid view the prospect of allowing Julian Alvarez to lead the line as the team’s first-choice striker as a factor that they could use to tempt him into putting pen to paper.

The report states that the club from the Spanish capital are taking measures to ensure Alvarez signs for them — ready to complete a deal if there is any possibility of it going through.

Man City should not sell Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid or any club

In our view, Manchester City would not benefit in the slightest if Julian Alvarez joined Rodrigo De Paul at Atletico Madrid.

The former River Plate goalscorer made 31 Premier League starts for the Sky Blues last season and remains one of their most important squad players.

Furthermore, the World Cup winner has spent the majority of his time at City playing as an attacking midfielder instead of as a natural striker; there is still plenty of untapped potential in Alvarez to explore once he is handed more opportunities to lead the line him.

If Julian Alvarez is sold to Atletico Madrid by Manchester City, they will have to replace him, which will be a challenge as there are not many better backup strikers than him.
